Acupuncture Worldwide
Acupuncture originated in East Asia and has been practised for centuries. During the twentieth century it became increasingly known in Europe, North America and other regions, where it began to be used in hospitals, pain clinics, rehabilitation centres and private medical practices.
Today, acupuncture is taught and practised under different regulatory systems. Training requirements, professional titles and approved treatment areas vary by country. In many healthcare systems, acupuncture is used mainly for pain management and selected musculoskeletal or neurological complaints.
Acupuncture and modern medicine
Modern acupuncture practice may combine traditional point-selection methods with contemporary medical diagnosis. Clinical research has particularly focused on pain, headache, migraine, nausea, rehabilitation and quality-of-life outcomes.
Scientific evidence is not equally strong for every claimed use. Therefore, each condition should be evaluated separately, and acupuncture should be applied within the limits of current medical knowledge and professional regulations.
A complementary approach
Acupuncture is generally best understood as a complementary medical method. It may support symptom control and rehabilitation, but it should not delay necessary diagnosis, medication, surgery or emergency treatment.
At Maraş Private Medical Clinic, patients are assessed individually before a treatment plan is proposed.
